The setup consists of a clear Acrylic fabricated section fitted with a nozzle at the bottom. Water is fed through this nozzle and discharged vertically to strike a target carried on a stem, which extends through the cover. A weight carrier is mounted on the upper end of the stem. The vertical force exerted on the target plate is measured with the help of force sensor mounted on the other end of the target stem.

The vertical force exerted on the target plate is measured with the help of force sensor mounted on the other end of the target stem. Two targets are provided with the setup, one is flat plate and other one is hemispherical cup. Both targets can easily be attached and detached on the stem, moving in transparent tank, without need of any extra tool. Present set-up is self-contained water re-circulating unit, provided with a sump tank, centrifugal pump etc. Water is pumped by means of centrifugal pump and passing through the nozzle and transparenttank, it returns back to the sump which make the system re-circulating type. Flow control valve and by-pass valve are fitted in water line to conduct the experiment on different flow rates. Flow rate of water is measured with the help of flow sensor, fitted in water line. The supplied set-up is complete in all respect. Only water supply and electricity supply is to be provided by the end user for running the set-up. The present set-up has a facility to interface the system with computer which enables to log the experimental data using computer. The educational software and data-logging package has been developed for unit. The software environment base is of Labview of NATIONAL INSTRUMENTS, USA. This software is compatible to interfacing unit designed by  Engineers. This software package provides a comprehensive educational software environment within which the investigations can be performed. This software is capable to tabulate the sample readings according to the requirement of experiment under study and results obtained can be compared. The real time data acquisition can be done by interfacing the set-up with computerusing software. Software allows the user to have control on data logging, printing the stored data, preparing spread sheets in Excel etc.

•Tanks will be made of Stainless Steel.

•An ENGLISH instruction manual consisting of experimental procedures, block diagram etc. will be provided along with the Apparatus.

•The whole set-up is well designed and arranged on a rigid structure painted with industrial PU Paint.

Experimentation/Learning Objectives

•To measure the force developed by a jet of water upon a target (Hemispherical cup or Flat Plate) and comparison with the forces predicted by the momentum theory.

•Electricity supply: Single Phase, 220 V AC, 50 Hz, 5-15 Amp. combined socket with earth connection. Earth voltage should be less than 5 volts.

•Water Supply: Initial fill and Floor Drain.

•Floor Area: 1.5 m x 0.75 m.

•Computer System: i-3 processor with DVD Drive, Windows 7, MS-Office pre-loaded. One USB slot required in PC for DATA ACQUISITION CARD.
