The present set-up is designed to study the Hydraulic Ram. Hydraulic Ram is used for pumping small quantity of water at high head, when large quantity of water at small head is available. It operates on the principle that if flowing water is suddenly brought to rest in a long pipe, a phenomenon known as water hammer occurs, wherein a pressure wave travels along the pipe. This principle is used in the Hydraulic Ram to pump water. 

The present set-up is designed to study the Hydraulic Ram. Hydraulic Ram is used for pumping small quantity of water at high head, when large quantity of water at small head is available. It operates on the principle that if flowing water is suddenly brought to rest in a long pipe, a phenomenon known as water hammer occurs, wherein a pressure wave travels along the pipe. This principle is used in the Hydraulic Ram to pump water. The set-upconsists of a chamber incorporating pulse and non-return valves. This constant head tank gets water from the pump which draw water from sump tank. A fixed height overflow in constant head tank maintains the constant water head in the tank. An air vessel above the valve chamber smoothes cyclic fluctuations for the Ram delivery. Different pressure may be applied to the pulse valve to change the closing pressure and hence the operating characteristic. To measure the waste water, a measuring tank with flow diverter is provided. Flow of useful water delivered by the ram is measured with the help of measuring cylinder and stopwatch. A pressure gauge in delivery line of useful water is also provided to know the head of water. Present set-up is self-contained water re-circulating unit, provided with a sump tank, centrifugal pump etc. Water is pumped by means of centrifugal pump and passing through the overhead tank and ram chamber, it returns back to the sump which make the system re-circulating type. Flow of water is diverted either to measuring tank or sump tank with the means of a flow diverter, when needed. The supplied set-up is complete in all respect. Only water supply and electricity supply is to be provided by the end user for running the set-up.

•An ENGLISH instruction manual consisting of experimental procedures, block diagram etc. will be provided along with the Apparatus.

•The whole set-up is well designed and arranged on a rigid structure painted with industrial PU Paint.
