Magnetic Force Accelerator
Product Specification Sheet
Magnetic Force Accelerator
Model Number: MTME-38
The Magnetic Force Accelerator is a visually engaging apparatus designed to demonstrate rapid motion produced through magnetic interaction. Micro Technologies supplies the apparatus with a ramp containing two permanent magnets positioned with their north poles facing upward and a set of three aluminium tubes of different diameters. When a tube is placed on the ramp and pushed toward the first magnet, it accelerates rapidly and travels off the end, providing a striking demonstration of magnetic-force effects. A suitable 6–12 V DC power supply is required for the demonstration and is not included.
Product Specification
The Magnetic Force Accelerator is designed to provide a dynamic demonstration of magnetic force and accelerated motion using permanent magnets and non-magnetic aluminium tubes. Its simple ramp arrangement creates an immediately visible effect that can be used for practical investigations of magnetic interaction and motion.
The main assembly consists of a ramp fitted with two permanent magnets. Both magnets are positioned with their north poles facing upward, establishing the magnetic configuration required for the experiment.
Micro Technologies supplies three aluminium tubes of different diameters for use with the apparatus. Aluminium is particularly useful for this demonstration because it is a non-ferromagnetic material, allowing the experiment to illustrate magnetic effects without conventional attraction of the tube to the permanent magnets.
To perform the demonstration, an aluminium tube is positioned on the ramp so that it is touching the first permanent magnet. A suitable 12 V DC voltage is applied to the sides of the ramp, creating the required experimental conditions.
The aluminium tube is then pushed toward the first magnet. Under the resulting conditions, the tube rapidly accelerates along the ramp and is projected from the end.
Different aluminium tube diameters can be compared to investigate how changes in the moving element influence the observed motion and acceleration.
The apparatus is also supplied with a wooden prop. This component can be used to support one end of the ramp, allowing the apparatus to be operated with the ramp inclined.
When the ramp is horizontal, the experiment can be performed without the wooden prop. This provides flexibility for comparing motion under different ramp orientations.
The Magnetic Force Accelerator provides a visually impressive demonstration while supporting investigations involving magnetic force, acceleration, motion, permanent magnets, and the behaviour of non-magnetic materials in magnetic systems.

FAQs
What is a Magnetic Force Accelerator used for?
It is used to demonstrate rapid acceleration and motion associated with magnetic interaction using permanent magnets and aluminium tubes.
How many permanent magnets are provided?
The ramp incorporates two permanent magnets.
How are the permanent magnets positioned?
The magnets are positioned with their north poles facing upward.
How many aluminium tubes are supplied?
The apparatus includes three aluminium tubes of different diameters.
Why are aluminium tubes used?
Aluminium is non-ferromagnetic, making it useful for demonstrating magnetic interaction without ordinary attraction to a permanent magnet.
How is the experiment performed?
An aluminium tube is positioned on the ramp touching the first magnet. With the required electrical supply connected, the tube is pushed toward the first magnet, after which it rapidly accelerates along the ramp.
What voltage is used for the demonstration?
The source information specifies 12 V DC for the demonstration.
What type of power supply is required?
A suitable 6–12 V DC power supply capable of approximately 15 A is required.
Is the power supply included?
No. The required DC power supply is not included with the standard apparatus.
Can different aluminium tubes be compared?
Yes. Three different tube diameters are supplied, allowing their behaviour to be compared.
Can the ramp be inclined?
Yes. A wooden prop is supplied for raising one end of the ramp.
Can the apparatus be operated horizontally?
Yes. When the ramp is used horizontally, the wooden prop is not required.
Can Magnetic Force Accelerators be supplied in bulk?
Yes. Micro Technologies can supply Magnetic Force Accelerator apparatus in bulk for laboratories, universities, colleges, research facilities, scientific equipment distributors, and institutional procurement.
