The Lenz’s Law Loop Demonstrator is a simple and effective apparatus designed to demonstrate Lenz’s law and electromagnetic induction. The Lenz’s Law Loop Demonstrator provides a clear visual method for investigating one of the fundamental principles of electromagnetic induction. Its open and closed loop arrangement allows the effect of induced current to be compared directly using a moving magnet.

When a suitable magnet is moved through or near the closed loop, the magnetic flux passing through the loop changes. This changing magnetic flux induces an electromotive force and consequently an electric current in the closed conductor.

According to Lenz’s law, the induced current flows in a direction such that the magnetic field it produces opposes the change in magnetic flux responsible for generating it. This interaction produces a visible mechanical response of the loop.

When the same experiment is performed with the open loop, the electrical path is interrupted. A sustained circulating induced current cannot flow around the loop, so the corresponding magnetic interaction and mechanical response are greatly reduced or absent.

The side-by-side comparison between the open and closed loops makes the apparatus particularly effective for demonstrating that electromagnetic induction involves not only a changing magnetic field but also a complete conductive path for significant induced current to circulate.

The apparatus can also be used to investigate the effect of changing the direction and speed of magnet movement. Faster changes in magnetic flux can produce a stronger induced response, while reversing the direction of motion reverses the corresponding induced-current tendency.
