Compact Electromagnetic Field Apparatus
Model Number: MTME-16
The Compact Electromagnetic Field Apparatus is designed to demonstrate magnetic fields produced by different current-carrying conductor configurations. Micro Technologies supplies the apparatus with three wire arrangements—straight wire, single loop, and solenoid—mounted on a clear Perspex frame for convenient observation. The unit supports currents up to approximately 1 A for visible magnetic-field effects and is supplied with three magnetic compasses. An external power supply is required for operation.
Product Specification
The Compact Electromagnetic Field Apparatus provides a convenient way to investigate how electric current produces magnetic fields around conductors of different shapes. Its compact construction integrates three commonly investigated conductor configurations into one apparatus, reducing the need for separate experimental setups.
The apparatus incorporates a straight wire, a single loop, and a solenoid. Each conductor arrangement produces a distinctive magnetic-field distribution when electric current passes through it, allowing the resulting field behaviour to be observed and compared.
All three configurations are mounted on a clear Perspex frame. The transparent construction provides good visibility of the conductors and allows magnetic compasses to be positioned conveniently around the experimental area.
The straight-wire configuration demonstrates the magnetic field surrounding a current-carrying linear conductor. Suitable magnetic compasses placed near the wire respond to the field and indicate its direction.
The single-loop configuration allows investigation of the field generated by a circular current path. It provides a useful comparison with the straight conductor and demonstrates how conductor geometry affects magnetic-field distribution.
The solenoid configuration demonstrates the combined magnetic effect produced by multiple turns of a conductor. When energized, the solenoid develops a magnetic-field pattern with identifiable polarity, allowing comparisons with the behaviour of a permanent bar magnet.
Micro Technologies supplies the apparatus for currents of up to approximately 1 A, which provides visible magnetic effects under suitable experimental conditions. The supplied magnetic compasses can be positioned at different locations to investigate field direction around each conductor arrangement.
The apparatus includes three magnetic compasses for experimental observations. A suitable external regulated power supply is required and is not included with the standard configuration.
With three conductor arrangements, transparent Perspex construction, and included compasses, the Compact Electromagnetic Field Apparatus provides a versatile solution for practical investigations of current-produced magnetic fields.

FAQs
What is the Compact Electromagnetic Field Apparatus used for?
It is used to demonstrate and investigate magnetic fields produced by electric current flowing through different conductor configurations.
Which conductor configurations are included?
The apparatus includes a straight wire, single loop, and solenoid.
What is the maximum operating current?
The apparatus supports a current of up to approximately 1 A for visible magnetic-field effects.
What material is the supporting frame made from?
The conductor configurations are mounted on a clear Perspex frame.
How many magnetic compasses are supplied?
The standard apparatus includes three magnetic compasses.
What does the straight-wire configuration demonstrate?
It demonstrates the magnetic field produced around a straight current-carrying conductor.
What does the single-loop configuration demonstrate?
It allows investigation of the magnetic field generated when current flows through a circular loop.
What does the solenoid configuration demonstrate?
The solenoid demonstrates the magnetic field generated by multiple turns of a current-carrying conductor and allows its polarity and field distribution to be investigated.
Can the three magnetic-field patterns be compared?
Yes. One of the main advantages of the apparatus is that the straight wire, single loop, and solenoid configurations can be investigated and compared using the same unit.
Is a power supply included?
No. A suitable external power supply is required for operation and is not included with the standard apparatus.
Can current direction and magnetic-field direction be investigated?
Yes. With a suitable reversible DC supply, the effect of changing current direction on the magnetic-field direction can be observed using the supplied compasses.
