Product Specification
The Inclined Plane Apparatus with Pulley from Micro Technologies is designed for practical investigations of forces and motion on an inclined surface. The apparatus provides an adjustable plane that allows the relationship between applied force, load, inclination angle and friction to be studied under controlled laboratory conditions.
The MT-10567A incorporates an inclined wooden plane approximately 600 mm long × 75 mm wide. A pulley is mounted at one end of the plane, allowing loads on the inclined surface to be connected through a cord to a hanging scale pan.
The opposite end of the inclined plane is hinged to a wooden base, allowing the angle of inclination to be varied. This arrangement makes it possible to investigate how changing the slope affects the force required to move or balance an object.
A linear scale is fixed along the edge of the inclined plane for convenient measurement and reference during experiments. An additional 0–45° angular scale is mounted on the base for measuring the angle of inclination.
A clamp is incorporated into the setup and also serves as an index for the angular scale, providing convenient angle setting and indication during experimental work.
The apparatus is supplied with a metal roller approximately 60 × 25 mm, two wooden blocks and a scale pan with cord. These components allow different frictional and motion conditions to be investigated using the same inclined-plane arrangement.
The wooden blocks can be used to investigate sliding friction and limiting friction, while the roller can support experiments involving rolling motion. The scale pan and pulley arrangement enables known loads to be applied to the test object.
The apparatus can also be used to study the force components acting on a body on an inclined plane. For an object of mass m on a plane inclined at angle θ, the component of its weight acting parallel to the plane is:
F = mg sin θ
while the normal component is:
N = mg cos θ
These relationships make the apparatus useful for experiments involving equilibrium, coefficient of friction, mechanical advantage, resolution of forces and motion on an inclined surface.
Manufactured and supplied by Micro Technologies, the Inclined Plane Apparatus with Pulley is suitable for physics laboratories, mechanics laboratories, engineering laboratories, research facilities and other environments conducting force, friction and motion investigations.
