The Constant Deviation Spectrometer (CDS) is a precision optical instrument developed for advanced spectroscopy, wavelength determination, optical calibration, and spectral analysis. The spectrometer features a 44 mm diameter collimating lens with a 500 mm focal length, producing a highly parallel beam for accurate spectral measurements. The telescope incorporates a 44 mm diameter objective lens mounted on a rigid optical assembly to provide sharp and well-defined spectral images.

A 10× Ramsden eyepiece with precision focusing is provided for clear observation of spectral lines. The eyepiece holder is mounted on a helical focusing mechanism, enabling smooth and accurate focusing at the focal plane of the eyepiece.

Both the collimator and telescope utilize achromatic doublet lenses, minimizing chromatic aberration and improving image clarity. These optical assemblies are securely mounted on precision-machined cast iron blocks to maintain excellent alignment and mechanical stability throughout experimental operation.

The Constant Deviation Prism (C.D.S. Prism) is mounted on a precision-machined cast iron prism table. The prism table is supported on a tangent screw mechanism that provides smooth and accurate rotation during wavelength measurements and spectral analysis.

A carefully designed adjustable air gap is maintained between the collimating lens and the prism table, allowing compatibility with specialized optical instruments such as the Fabry-Perot Interferometer.

The prism housing is constructed from aluminium casting and incorporates two optical gates. One gate allows light from the collimator to enter the prism, while the second gate enables the dispersed light to be collected by the telescope objective, ensuring efficient optical performance.

The instrument includes a calibrated prism drum covering the visible spectrum from 4000 Å to 7000 Å, allowing direct wavelength measurement with an accuracy of approximately ±5 Å.

A heavy-duty cast iron base provides excellent vibration resistance and long-term mechanical stability. The collimator, telescope, prism table, prism drum assembly, and associated components are finished in durable black paint for protection and professional appearance.
